Thanks to a system that quickly saturates ground coffee and a sealed carafe that minimizes evaporation, this 10-cup coffeemaker delivers full-flavored coffee that doesn't turn bitter while it's on the warming plate. The water-dispersal system ensures rapid, uniform saturation, and the plastic carafe has a spout that automatically opens for pouring and then shuts tightly, combining with the sealed lid to prevent evaporation. Other features include a coffee-flow shutoff if the carafe is removed for a quick pour during the brewing cycle; a swing-out filter basket that can be removed for cleaning; a flip-top lid on the water tank; and cord storage in the rear. This model comes clad in bright white plastic and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Other product info from buyers:

  1. We purchased this coffeemaker based on a Consumer Reports recommendation. CR clearly didn't test it for very long. Within 60 days, the basket holding the coffee grounds wouldn't close without lifting the flow control valve that allows you to remove the carafe before brewing was finished. Eventually the valve broke and it's obvious why. The valve is a spring loaded arm which pushes a rubber ball into an opening at the bottom of the basket. The arm narrows to a small piece of plastic before it widens into a larger part of the arm that is raised by the carafe to drop the ball and let the coffee drip into the carafe. Over time, the plastic is weakened by the heat of the coffee and the pressure of the spring that forces the ball to close when the carafe is removed. Eventually the arm0 snaps at its narrowest point. While the coffee tastes great (much better than my old Mr. Coffee) the basket dribbles coffee over the hot plate when you remove the carafe after it stops brewing. There are 4 prongs that hold the lid on the carafe. They are very small and 3 of the 4 are now broken. It's almost impossible to pour water into the holding tank without spilling it over the side and onto the countertop. I've only had this for 90 days, but it's going into the trash as soon as I get another brand to replace it. We had our Mr. Coffee machine for years and never broke anything on it. **
  2.  We bought this coffee maker as a replacement for a similar, but older Braun model. The new one is better because: 1) The filter holder drains completely. The old one retained some moisture that I needed to hand dry before putting in a new filter. 2) The locking mechanism for the filter holder is more positive -- you know when it is locked in place. 3) The price of the new model is less than we paid for the older model.

I make a pot coffee every morning. The coffee is consistently excellent, and the coffee maker plays a role in that -- which is why we ordered the similar model when the old one broke. Why did the old one break? I left it on with no water in the carafe for a couple of days. (My bad.) It had performed well for years, however, so we got our money's worth.
